Acai Berry

The Acai Berry (pronounced "ah-sigh-ee") is a small Grape sized berry that grows in the Amazon Rainforest, Brazil. The natives of the region have harvested this berry as part of their diet for hundred of years.

Global demand for the fruit has expanded rapidly in recent years, and açaí is now cultivated for that purpose primarily. The closely related species Euterpe edulis (jucara) is now predominantly used for hearts of palm.
